Earthquake measuring 7.1 in Indonesia

Indonesia strong earthquake hits The quake struck the northern coast of Maluku province in the country. The magnitude of the earthquake that hit Friday morning was 7.1.

But the US Tsunami Warning Center says there is no danger of a tsunami from the quake. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck 140 km northwest of the coastal city of Terena. Its depth was 45 km.

Indonesia's weather and climate agency has warned people to stay away from the beach.

The tremors were felt during the earthquake in Terena area. At that time panic spread among the sleeping people as they came out of their houses to the streets.

Indonesia has been hit by a series of earthquakes before. Last September, more than two thousand people died in the tsunami triggered by the earthquake in Palu City on the island of Sulawesi. Besides, a thousand more people are missing.
