Smriti Irani takes aim at Deepika Padukone over JNU visit, says 'want to know her political affiliation'

Union Minister Smriti Irani has strongly criticized Indian actress Deepika Padukone for standing beside the students in the attack on students of Jawaharlal Nehru University in the issue of National Citizenship (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The minister of the BJP-led government said, "Deepika Padukone must know that she is standing next to some people who want to destroy the country (India)."

Irani said these things during a ceremony on Friday (January 10th).

Referring to the anti-national slogan of Jawaharlal Nehru University students, he said, "I think if anyone reads the news, he will know where to stand. They (Deepika) know they are standing next to some people who are trying to destroy the country. '

Earlier, law enforcers attacked students of Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University protesting against the NRC and CAA. Popular actress Deepika Padukone and others are standing beside the students protesting the attack. Deepika also criticized this in an interview on a television today called Tak.

Meanwhile, some right-wing leaders of the BJP have called for boycott of Deepika's new movie 'Chhapak', which was released on January 10.
